You will want to go with a larger beam size if you are working on large areas (to increase efficiency). The MD-50 or MD-100 Diode laser systems are perfectly suited for rapid and efficient permanent laser hair removal and can clear a woman's leg or a man's back in just about 2 hours. The DM-15 and DM-20 require a little more time into the treatment to clear large areas but are best suited for limited areas such as the bikini line or face, half legs.

The general rule of thumb is 40jcm2 maximum for a real efficient level.

In general, people are not informed regarding the power needed to perform an efficient laser hair removal. Some will ask how many watts does a machine develop when the right question and the only one should be what the wavelength and the beam size are. Working at 808nm will do the job but an output beam under 1.5mm will be too small. Beware of sellers saying that their machine gives you a 1cm treatment output beam! these machines have a 1cm laser head with 1-2 or 3 pin point output beam. The reality is that it remains a "hair by hair" treatment with very low efficiency and that requires a lot of patience. Just think that a Lumenis Lightsheer, a machine over USD$70,000.00 has a 9mm output beam, that other ones at over USD$60,000.00 have a 5mm output beam maximum and tehy are considered to be the most powerful machines on the market. Each professional unit should include an EMERGENCY STOP. Most sellers will give you the specification of their laser units but will never provide you with the real output power of the beam once it reaches your skin.

Some will also tell you that a certain unit will do multiple jobs but you know for a fact that no unit can do a perfect job for multiple types of treatments unless you choose an IPL system with different crystal and programmable parameters.
